The focus of our Troop is to teach leadership, life and citizenship skills through outdoor activities, community service, and encouraging responsibility in a fun, energetic and exciting program! Our annual planning is done by the scouts and they fill the year with the activities that they want to accomplish. Our Troop is also supported through two fundraisers a year as well as a benefit from Intel.
Our program pushes the "outing" in "Scouting"! We are a high octane troop with a long history of hiking, backpacking, cycling, canoeing, and have recently expanded our offerings with the addition of a kayaking program.
We go on many fun outings annually. In the Fall we spend the day caving at the Ape Caves near Mt. Saint Helens. In the first part of the year, we go up to Mt. Hood and do a weekend stay at one of the BSA owned winter lodges. It is a chance for us to do snow shoeing hiking and other snow fun! We also do snow camping and learn how to survive in snowy conditions. March is Patrol-outing month, so Patrols get to choose where they want to go for camping and other activities. Additionally, in early May we go to Camporee which is a weekend campout for all the Troops in our District to compete in games, cooking, practicing the Patrol Method and have fun. Summers with us are a packed, fulfilling experience, with a variety of options such as a week-long Scouts BSA Resident Camp, day hikes, small overnight back packing trips, and even one or two 50 miler one-week trips (hiking, cycling or kayaking) Our most recent 50 miler was in 2019 where a group hiked from Mt. Hood to Mt. Jefferson!
One of our long standing community service traditions that we are honored to complete is placing flags in downtown Hillsboro for several holidays throughout the year (Labor Day, Flag Day, Memorial Day, Presidents' Day) - Contact Us for a list of our current Troop activities and adventures!
All in all, our program is packed with adventures for every scout and experiences that will fulfill the adventure in you!
"We go where we want to go, putting on a great show, we are Troop 2 4 0!"
